Our history in Earlsfield
Our pub has stood at the heart of the Earlsfield community since 1721, where it started as an inn and neighboured a blacksmith!
Earlsfield (formerly Garrat Green) was known to be quite an outrageous, party hot spot up until it had a rail station implemented in the 1820’s and was renamed Earlsfield. The rowdiest day of the year would be when the area hosted local elections during general elections, which would be held at none other than our pub.
The photo to the left was taken in 1920 with landlord George Taylor. During the Blitz in the 1940s, many local buildings around the pub were hit, including the school across the road, Waldron Road school, which has now been rebuilt and named Garratt Park school.
There have been multiple refurbishments and alterations to the pub to keep it standing and keep the community happy. The most recent refurbishment (2024) saw more traditional wood panelling and lighting put in, getting the pub back to it’s roots. Through all sparkles and alterations, we are happy to have the same wonderful community involved.
See you soon!
